About Robert L. Phillips D.D.S.

Many of our patients inquire about the background of Dr. Phillips prior to their first visit. We have compiled some information that may be of some interest to you.

Dr. Phillips is a General Dentist Specialist - specializing in oral surgery, periodontics, orthodontics and endodontics.

Dr. Phillips is currently the Secretary/Treasurer of the Oklahoma Dental Association.

Dr. Phillips graduated with honors from the OU School of Dentistry in 1978. He completed a dental residency at Wilford Hall USAF hospital in San Antonio, Texas from 1980 to 1982. He was then transferred to Edwards AFB, California where he served as Deputy Base Dental Surgeon from 1982 to 1984. His next appointment was the Base Dental Surgeon position at Altus AFB, Oklahoma from 1984 to 1987. Upon retirement (as Lieutenant Colonel) in September of 1987 he began his private practice as a civilian. Dr. Phillips also served on the Admissions Board at the College of Dentistry at the University of Oklahoma from 1996 - 2007.

Dr. Phillips was a part-time instructor at the OU College of Dentistry from 1988 to 1992. He was selected as the Outstanding Part-Time Instructor of the year for the 1989-1990 school year.

For those interested in his military background Dr. Phillips began his military career in Weapons Research at Kirkland AFB, New Mexico in 1965. He completed Officer Training School as a distinguished graduate in 1966. He entered Pilot training school in 1966 and graduated 1967. Dr. Phillips completed tours as a combat pilot in 1968,1969,1970, and 1972. He was then assigned to Flight Test Maintenance as a test pilot. He is credited with more than 350 combat flying hours in Sac & Tac.

In addition to a military career and a career in dentistry, Dr. Phillips served in the U.S. Peace Corps for two years (1963-1965) teaching mathematics, chemistry, physics, and biology to junior college level students in Nigeria, West Africa.

Dr. Phillips is an ordained Deacon of Greater New Zion Baptist Church. He is also a Life Member of the Langston University Alumni Association and the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
